Activision Blizzard mobile games have become the company’s top revenue stream. Activision has recently published a financial report, in the financial report, we can see that a little over half of the total revenue earned from the company came from mobile games. This means that mobile games were more profitable for the company than PC and console games combined.
The Activision Blizzard financial report covers up to three months, which includes June 30th. During the period, it was revealed that Activision Blizzard’s revenue was $332 million from PC games and $376 million from console games. The company also revealed that from mobile game sales, the company brought in $831 million. This means that mobile games accounted for over 50 percent of the total income of the company.
If Activision Blizzard had included their income from its “other” category, which includes income from games like Overwatch and Call of Duty as well as its distribution business, the total revenue would be $105 million. Now that is also a lot of money, but still less than 50 percent of the company’s revenue stream.
At this time last year, this wasn’t the case. The income for PC, mobile, and consoles were all pretty competitive with one another. Consoles were 32 percent of the total income, and PC sales were 27 percent of the total income. Mobile on the other hand, was 35 percent of the total income.
The news regarding mobile games shows growth for the mobile games industry as a whole. The sales for PC and consoles have declined noticeably, while mobile has grown by 5 percent. Most of Activision Blizzard’s revenue came from King, the mobile game publisher Activision purchased back in 2016. King is one of their most valuable assets, as they account for roughly 82 percent of the total mobile revenue for the company. King is the creator of Candy Crush, which was the United State’s most successful mobile game for five years in a row.
