Like A Dragon 8 Release Date

Like a Dragon 8 was officially announced, along with a Like a Dragon 8 release date, during today’s RGG Summit with members of its development team. A short trailer was shown revealing Yakuza: Like a Dragon protagonist Ichiban Kasuga and Kiryu Kazuma walking in Kamurocho. This is the first official reveal of Like a Dragon 8 after a brief glimpse seen in July, thanks to a video from Sega’s offices.

The brand new trailer posted by RGG Studio showed off the new series protagonist, Ichiban Kasuga, walking on Tenkaichi Street, which is one of the most notable locations in the series. As he’s walking, the voices of his friends can be heard, which are the same group of people who were his party members in Yakuza: Like A Dragon. After a bit, a man whose face we can’t see joins him. Both walk together until it’s revealed who the man is. It’s Kiryu Kazuma, the Dragon of Dojima himself. He’s sporting a new look, which I’m assuming is supposed to help him stay undercover.

One notable thing from the trailer is that it doesn’t call the new game “Yakuza 8” or “Yakuza: Like A Dragon 2”. While this may seem odd, this makes complete sense. The games are called Like A Dragon in Japan, and the franchise has never been about the yakuza at its core, and with how Yakuza 7 ended, it’s only natural. This is going to be the new name for the franchise going forward, and Like a Dragon 8 will be the first main entry in the franchise to sport this name.

Moving onto gameplay, it seems as though players will be able to control both Kiryu and Ichiban as protagonists. It’s only natural to assume this will follow the format of previous games, where certain chapters are of one main character, while the next one is of the other one. As for combat, it looks like it’s going to be keeping the turn-based formula introduced in Like a Dragon 7 intact, and Kiryu will have his party members, while Ichiban’s are going to be separate.

Like A Dragon 8 will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
