Nintendo eShop Shutting Down For WiiU And 3DS

The Nintendo eShop is one of Nintendo’s biggest services, where they offer developers the ability to release games on their platforms, although it seems that soon a few consoles will be losing access to the eShop. The Nintendo eShop for Wii U and 3DS is closing, it has been known that Nintendo planned to shut them down for a while now. The Nintendo eShop for 3DS and Wii U closing is pretty sad, and the Japanese company announced that at the end of March 2023, players will no longer be able to make purchases to buy games, nor will they be able to download demos.

Does The Nintendo eShop Still Work On The 3DS and WiiU?

According to Nintendo, from the date of March 27, 2023, players won’t be able to use the shop feature on the eShops of the affected consoles. This means that players won’t be able to make purchases on the Wii U and the 3DS. Along with this, Nintendo also confirmed that players won’t be able to download free demos as well.
It’s known that from August 29th, 2022, it also won’t be possible for players to add funds on the Wii U and 3DS via eShop cards. Download codes will still be redeemable until the end of March 2023. Nintendo recommends that players use up any existing funds they have left, before the shops close on March 27, 2023.

Unaffected Features

Switch owners can combine the balance of their Nintendo Account and Nintendo Network ID and can use the balance on Wii U and 3Ds until March 27th, 2023. After that, you can only use the balance on the Switch. The download of purchased games, DLCs, and software updates is not affected at all by the Nintendo eShop’s closure. This means that the online functions of games that have it should remain unaffected as well.
