Initially released in Oct 2018, Red Dead Redemption 2 is a prequel to the 2010s critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption. To no one’s surprise, it was an instant hit upon release among fans of the original and newcomers to the series alike. In less than two weeks of its initial launch, Red Dead Redemption 2 outsold the original Red Dead Redemption and became the Top 50 best-selling games of all time.
Fans have praised the game for stunning visuals, in-depth story mode, and a vast yet immersive open world. Many have also argued that Arthur Morgan is a significantly more compelling and better-written overall character than John Marston. Unlike its original counterpart, Red Dead Redemption has made quite a name in modders communities, thanks to its PC release.
Take-Two Interactive has recently revealed the updated sales figures for a number of its titles in its recently published Q4 2022 report. According to the recent sales report, Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 44 million units to date, making it the number 9th best-selling video game of all time.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has outsold Wii Fit & Terraria, now becoming the world’s 9th most sold video game to date. It was originally the 11th most sold title to date, now hitting the top ten’s list!

It was also revealed that last quarter Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 1 million fewer units than the recent quarter. However, according to the report by NPD Groups, Red Dead Redemption has retained its position as the 2nd best-selling game for the past 5 years straight which is a feat in itself.
