Shroud Joins Sentinels Valorant Roster

Michael Grzesiek, more commonly known as Shroud, has revealed that he’ll be joining the e-sports team, Sentinels, as their fifth player in an unexpected move. Shroud joins Sentinels Valorant roster, even though Shroud hasn’t played competitively in 4 years. The news on Friday shocked many because after being away from the competitive scene for years, being hit with the news that Shroud joins Sentinels, it’s sure to be a surprise. The news was announced via Twitter, with the tweet reaching 200k likes.

The Return Of A King

Shroud first started his competitive career back in 2014 playing CS: GO. He played for Cloud9 for 4 years, till 2017, when he stepped away from the starting roster to focus on streaming full-time. He left the organization fully in 2018 and has not played competitively since. Shroud also hasn’t played Valorant professionally at all, but he has streamed the game plenty on streams, and he also co-streamed various VCT events.

The news of his return shocked many people, to the point where people started questioning if it was real or just a big joke. Sentinels later posted another video on their Twitter, explaining that yes, in fact, Shroud was joining Sentinels for real.

Sentinels have struggled to win this year and lost their initial shot at Champions. They’ll have to compete in VCT LCQ for North America. Shroud will be taking the controller role in the upcoming VCT Last Chance Qualifier. Sentinels have also confirmed that if they make it past the LCQ, Shroud will also compete in VCT Champions. Shroud has also said that a boot camp with the team is expected to happen in the future.

It seems as though Shroud is stepping in for Hunter “SicK” Mims, who was playing the controller role before Shroud. SicK has taken a leave of absence from the team from issues stemming from his mental health, so the team needed a fifth player.

It’ll be interesting to see how all this plays out, as a former champion in the e-sports scene returns, it’ll sure be an exciting time. The North America LCQ happens will be taking place next month, in August.
